What is Hapkido?
Hap Ki Do – Translated the art of coordinated power is considered one of the most effective forms of self defense today. Hapkido was termed in Korea by it’s founder Yong Sul Choi who was a senior student of Sokaku Takeda one of the most feared Japanese Warriors of the last 200 years. Choi was kidnapped during the early 1900’s by a Japanese family that was leaving Korea. Upon arriving in Japan the family abandoned him to a Budhist Temple. The Priest of this temple noticed a great desire that Choi had to study martial arts and arranged for him to become a part of the household of the great Ju Jitsu Master Sokaku Takeda. After many years of serving and training under Takeda, Yong Sul Choi was able to return to Korea after the war. Upon his return to Korea he began teaching Takeda’s art known as Ju Jitsu in Japanese. He termed it Hapkido upon teaching in Korea.
